2019.. I read recently that Joy's marriage dissolved and you have to wonder if it will play any role in TCW ever reconciling as a performing duo... One thing is for sure.. if they ever DO tour again, it will be one of the most sought-after tickets on the planet..Not to mention the enormous financial success it (and subsequent new music) would be.. In fact, that might be a good REASON to reconcile, to secure the futures of their children.. Think about it JP and Joy..

@Aishwarya Gupta Just my opinion but I think it's American Folk Music.

It's like alternative American folk with splashes of pop, rock, and contemporary Christian.

And yet this has a kinda jazzy, night club show show feel, don't it?Anyway, Americana or American Roots would be the genre. Stringed instruments, emphasis on vocals and simple verse/chorus songwriting, but the virtuosity of musicians and complexity of the music can be staggering. So you'll know, if you come back and read a YEAR-OLD YouTube post. smh

It's very interesting to read all these comments as a newcomer to the Civil Wars' music. I was led to this video by a beautiful cover by the Youtuber Ilia Anderson, and knew nothing about the duo. However, as I was watching the video, I was mesmerized by the natural chemistry between the two, and simply assumed that they were a real-life couple. I was dumbfounded to read Hesam0000's comment that they are not a couple, and his interpretation on why they split up as a duo added a whole new layer to this fantastic performance. It makes it more endearing, more aching, sadder. With Hesam's comment in mind, the way John Paul (I'm guessing that's the dude's name) looks at the girl (Joy?) when he sings "so sweet" is incredibly heart-wrenching, and I continue to imbue their actual relationship into the rest of this song, which has now become quite a sad one for me. Whether they intended for this song to reflect their own relationship or not, this impression of the song is what I'll always have from now on.

Entrancing, mesmerizing, seductive. You will forever be missed.

I can imagine why they split. From long ago I always wondered how John Paul can be so close to Joy and not be tempted to get closer because she sounds heavenly and looks feminine & attractice and knowingly or unknowingly she's a teaser too 0:35 and knowing that Joy is happily married I thought that day may come when he says or tries something & Joy gets forced to split. I also think deep down they both like eachother only John Paul came 4 years toolate & Joy met a good husband.

New talent is here, not new really just recently discovered. Just awesome talent. After watching them perform I looked up the radio interview to find out there background and what makes them so solid and likely to last. I can imagine a lot of there music will be used movie and television scores in time to come as some have already tapped into there music for such. Simplicity and heart with  talent to tastefully express in a natural form with only a guitar and two voices! From there original music to new renditions of covers of all kinds,   everything seems unique and fresh.
