My favourite REM song. I can never thank my father enough for raising me on this album (and REM in general). AFTP is one of the best albums ever made.

Mike Mills is a goddamned angel, and every single one of us would be blessed to have him back-up the soundtrack of our lives.

This song is much like a person - man, woman, even a dhild perhaps - standing on a sandy or rocky and desolate beach somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, waves breaking and crashing in front of and all around you and contemplating one's complete insignificance and smallness, while gazing out onto the immense ocean that stretches out before you as far as the eyes can see. What matters the most I suppose is what exists out there in The Great Beyond, little of which we know about beyond what is promised and speculated and wished and hoped for. Cherish life while you are living your own. Nothing is guaranteed beyond what is here right now. But never lose sight of your hopes and dreams or your Faith in Almighty God above!

One of R.E.M.s finest moments I think - beautifully crafted, poignant and still sends a shiver up the spine.

REM is a band that did amazing songs and had the grace to bow out. I wish other rock and rollers would do the same. I bought my last U2 album in 90/ 91 and at the time this was one of my favourite bands. I would listen to them over the lake water of cottage country when our family left the city for 2 months every summer. Ironically, I would want REM to do music for the next 60 years.

I'm 46, R.E.M got me through many hard times in my life. And is still the best band in history. I am teaching my 17 year old all the songs and they're meanings. They're songs, music, poetry are the soundtrack to my life and give me strength.

I just started to listing for REM the last few years, I heard the songs popular on the radio, but I didn't know many other songs. amazing how many great songs they made I discover somethimg new every other day, one of the greatest bands ever., period

I dont know what it is, but REM has a sound no one has. Every one of their albums are great. Their music seems to, transcend time. This isn't music that was made by four guys in a garage, this music has been forever. I love their lyrics cause as a southerner, they make sense. Their music, especially their closer songs, just has an affect on me. Like reading a great and wondering "What do I do now?" Great band, love them. I'm gonna listen to their all music. I've heard Murmur to New Adventures. Not a bad song anywhere on those albums.

I was having a crappy and bad week at work. On friday I was listening Automatic for the People to cheer me up, and I played this song several times during the day. That same day at 11 pm my pregnant wife told me that she was having contractions and on our way to the hospital I pressed play and listen to this song again. Today I'm a happy dad and Now more than ever this is my favorite REM song, and it is now deeply connected on a personal level. It remind me to focus on what really matters
