Beauty at all!
She makes it look easy... what a goddess
美しい
I just heard this as background in a British (of course!) TV series about Impressonist painting. But somehow it seems like an old friend, and I am not sure why.
At last I have seen how to play1.14
The quick beginning, sound almost magical but the way she plays it is in humane, the notes seems so light and played with perfection. Very busy piece with notes ranging mainly of higher tones writhing the melody
why are her fingers flat like that
It's impossible to play soft without doing that in this piece
insuperable
...she has perhaps the most mercurial technique of all, perfectly suited for this kind of music...
Magica bella unica Martha
We are not playing the same song at all.
Especially because this isn't a song, haha.
@Alejandro M. I mean, piece.sor
Her fingers are gracefully dancing!
amazing
omg it's so good and so long ago I didn't know music was really good back then
The most thing i love in martha in addition to her playing is that she plays piano like she is playing at her home
there is something very dark, almost devilish about the way she plays..
1:20 bar 291:44 bar 342:00 bar 38
...sometimes too fast, sometimes too slow.... not my preferred version.
1977 recording and still sounds good. That's Martha Argerich for you.
I always hate it, when i see beauty from before i was born. I always feel like i missed out.
verry verry good
I like the speed played here over a few others I've listened too.
This is beautiful!
Le piano, c’est vraiment facile pour elle... ça se voit sur son visage. Aucun effort...
Amazing
0:42 ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
Christopher Scott why
Someone needs to make a rap song with the very start part— sounds like someone sampled it
I think that Maurice Ravel is the artist who best describes water...the sea, rivers, waves...
You did not listen to Debussy, reflections on the water.
Parts of it sound like Gershwin..it's said they were friends and Ravel liked American Jazz..
I’ll say it’s a castle under the water...
Masterpiece
This is the best
2018 anyone? i have to play this piece for my arct exam and its actually so annoying bc of all the accidentals. martha is an actual god
It sounds as if i am on clouds, looking up at the baby blue sky... throw in some melancholy too... absolute masterpiece.
Ha! Watching in 2018, the audio is... like a toy piano heard thru 20 metres of vacuum cleaner hose – recorded on a 1980s-era phone answering machine! But the vid must have originally sounded much better, because older comments don't mention the sound. If the poster gets a chance, please re-upload your vid file!
Ok, I'm a moron, the problem was the way I had my _own_ audio routed. Sorry for the comments.
Wonderful -o-
ahhh my fingers are useless stinkin cigars<3
Wonderful
Holy shit that sounds good
I can see rain drops falling into water of a small pond and interferencing water waves
Simply the best.
She mastered the piece!
SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Amazing .....
Doesn't get better than this
Effortless beauty💖❤️💖❤️💖❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💖🍷🍷🍷Goddess of the pianoforte!
did she ever make a studio recording of this? Soooo perfect, I just wish the sound quality of broadcast television was better in the 70s
Gabriel Kyne yes... an Argerich album on DG called "Debut Recital" contains an early 60s recording of this piece ... it's fantastic
Quelle dextérité ! Martha Argerich sait avec talent créer cette ambiance aquatique, une rivière de diamants coule entre ses doigts... magnifique !
This is so good
ㅁㅊ다 ㄹㅇ............................ 곡듣다 빨려들어가는줄알았네
It flows!!
Beautifullly done and this is such a wonderfully composed piece overall
Beautiful.
Serious kudos to the lack of cuts in this video. Nearly all video documentation of piano performance is just stupid zooms on the performer's face. It's so good to see her hands at work throughout.
Sparkling, I love the transparency of the tone.
in japanese, this is called 'Mizu no Tawamure'.Like a nymph of water dancing or getting into mischief...
A víz játéka (Hungarian)
best version ever!!!
Grandiosa pianista! amo esta obra de Ravel
Wonderful !
DIOS AL PIANO
One of the most overated pianists in history.
In you really believe that, you haven't been truly listening. (My one reservation about her performances might be her Prokofiev, where she sometimes sounds a bit too much like a player piano and seems to miss some of the depth in his music.)
thomas thompson it’s possible that she’s slightly overrated but (I’m sorry) her Prokofiev 3 especially, and her Prokofiev in general, is superior. I personally think she’s a Prokofiev specialist
magnifique !
C4EST BON CAOSSI BON QUE MESHUGGAH
Maravilhosa!!!!!
failed version. dont liked at all
amazing martha....thank you !
bonjour mr chommeil comment sa va moi bien
Very unsatisfying last chord.
I had not heard of this composition until I read it in Mozart in the Jungle. What an incredible piece of music this is! And Martha Argerich is brilliant. I will seek out more by Ravel as a result. Thank you for uploading it.
holobrew I would recommend his left hand concerto
Yes, thank you. I have listened to that, here-- https://goo.gl/v553Xt --and I reviewed it a year ago. I listened to this concerto for the first time ever just now. I thought it was marvelous - the music and the performances. Thank you for uploading it.
For me Ravel's music is like looking on the leaves falling down of a tree on an autumn day. Absolutely beautiful.
joanna p Technically the title of this piece translates to water games or games of water but sure, have your own image.
Very virtuosic but honestly fails to tease out the sweetest spots. Most of the time played too fast
demasiado
omg. This is so beautiful!!!! I'm gonna learn this piece next!
Difficultly
I am now playing this. This is so beautiful but so deadly for your mind and eyes!:( Nearly killed myself while trying to identify the notes:(
I could listen to this all day. It's piano poetry
Everything about this is beautiful...
Jesus christ, she's amazing.
That she is
Jesus Christ is amazing. And so is the lady and the music. 🎶
it sounds like bubbles.... I'm in a different world when I listen to this :)
+FrootKat yeah, jeux d'eau means literally "water games" but refers to water features in gardens, like fountains and pools. i think what everyone would agree is that this song is about water, moving water. to get more synaesthetic with it, to me the arpeggios / flourishes in the higher register are the shimmering highlights on moving water...
That's the impresionism point
It's all in the pinky.
+Arif Covalt and the brain
It is so beautiful
This is absolutely beautiful
I'm playing this piece now. It is beautiful and Argerich performs it flawlessly. Bravo!
What county jail has a Steinway grand? Kidding, love Martha, such liquid legato, amazing musicianship!
"Liquid legato" is probably important since this piece is based on water
i love the lack of sustain on the last note in the beginning, almost sounds like it's being cut like a sample, or a repeat on a record
@BarbedDagger it is about how unpredictable water can be, whether it is peaceful or if it is in a storm it describes the emotion beautifully
Hannah Jones Yes, for sure it is interesting. It has something to it
experionu damn that is really good man
Yep! When I first heard this piece, I thought to myself the sound is decidedly like modern hip hop. But the piece was written in 1901! Ahead of its time.
@BarbedDagger Water spouts shooting out of fountains is a bit different from the flow of natural water sources like the ocean or a stream. Although it's still water, there's a mechanical, man-made aspect to its flow now - a calculated repetition - the fountain spits out a jet, it arcs through the air, falls down, and with perfect timing, shoots out again. To me, that's the effect here, and Martha captures it perfectly.
LANG LANG solo tecnica che disturba pure.
Fuck Lang Lang
NESSUN come martha argerich.
This is truly amazing
Like the movement of water...
magical <3
FRUMOS O SPLENDOARE BINE
martha is the boss. don't fuck with martha
Martha is one hell of a hot biatch but she'll whoop yo ass down if you dis her muthafuckas!
Johann Sebastian Bach watch your mouth Bach
Bach,lol,you made my day,oh behave!!
Possibly the best playing I have ever heard in my life...she looks so casual playing, perhaps if she was a bit flamboyant like the men who make a big flourish rising hands off the keys, with tossled hair their face, perhaps more people would write compliments..also, hard to believe this video is 38 years old.....is she retired now, or something?
In the Teatro Colón (Argentina) In August 2016 played Liszt and BIs Ondine "Gaspard de la Nuit de Ravel !!! In immensely wonderful !!
13th of july we see her at Herodion theater in Athens Greece!
lmao horowitz was playing virtuoso pieces right up until his death.Argerich has another 15-20 years of playing left in her.
I had the pleasure/honor of seeing her play Prokofiev’s piano concerto 3 last year. Truly a sight to behold and a force to reckon with. I honestly felt like my life was complete after those thirty minutes, just being in the same space as her presence *squeals in fangirlish and dies*
Martha Argerich is a musical genius. She has her own style of interpretation. Her performances are amazing.
