She has the emotions but not the vocal heft to sing this song. It balanced better here, But you can really hear it when she sings it live. The instruments wash her voice away. This is a song for like Joan joat or wynonna or catie turner. Still love you. The album is the bomb

Favorite off this CD and I like the rest of the songs, but this song is simply Brilliant. I hope this is one her singles because I really believe this will be a Song of the year contender at all awards. Her vocal control is simply spectacular

I just saw her do this on Stephen Colbert's show and was very impressed. I haven't been a big Carrie Underwood fan but this has got real power and soul. It was nice to hear the song mixed well (on the Colbert show the two lead guitars tended to drown her out) and to hear the really emotional lyrics. But when Colbert interviewed her on the show she left out two important names from her list of pioneering women country singers: Rose Maddox and Kitty Wells.

Gié While I agree that Low was a better choice than Southbound, I do have to say that Southbound may be an incredibly easy number 1, given that it was released for summer. And, unless she puts out 5 singles, it’s going to be a huge choice between this song and Drinking Alone, both amazing choices for singles.

Carrie is such talent diverse artist. This is so well written and produced. Love Hank Williams reference and influence. Old style singing mixed with her signature style of singing is stunning. This is one of my favorites and hope its a single.

I love this album because it's raw, and it comes from real emotion.

I can't help but the melody and the way she sings this song is very similiar to Jason mraz's song "I won't give up." Definitely one of my favorite on the album.

I'm tryna analyze these songs for lyrics, chorus, production and everything else but DAMN her voice is making it so hard. It doesn't matter if this isn't Carrie's best album, and it's not, I'VE NEVER HEARD HER SING BETTER!!!!!!

I actually still think that blown away is her best album, but I think Low, Drinking alone and cry pretty are her best songs to date.

I am from the Philippines where US country music is not so popular. I first saw Carrie on AI back in its 4th Season and that was when I started to appreciate country music. I always appreciate Carrie's music because when she sings its as if she is telling a story or poetry for the ears...whatever it's called. There are a lot of performers out there but very few singers. What i appreciate about Carrie is, she doesn't need massive stage productions for me to enjoy her songs or her performances. Her voice alone is enough for one to be in awe. I remember when she sang How Great Thou Art with Vince Gill, i was in tears. When I first heard this song, i feel like there is so much pain. I wish she will perform this in one of the awards shows. Just her on stage with a few candles and just the background music. Drinking Alone, Backsliding and That Song That We Used to Make Love To were also great songs. If I were to be asked I wish she will release most of the songs as singles if not all the songs.

I like some Shania Twain's songs back then but didn't even know that it called "country". 😅I am not so into country music but Carrie Underwood is my first and favourite. I love some of modern country songs from some artists such as Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town and Maddie & Tae. 😊
