What I am saying is yes, there was the real life Jeremy and he existed and he may or may not have been Indigenous or Métis, not sure. However, Pearl Jam decided to add a layer of subliminal message to this song. They were just so successful back in the day and I believe Genocide wasn’t very sexy for the record label, also they needed to appeal to a global audience. In the 90s, nobody talked about that stuff openly, at least not in Europe, where they were a big hit. So they chose this route. This is about killing off the Spokane Nation by means of “Native American Boarding Schools”. Positively horrible stuff one needs to educate oneself about.

I think his parents are being too dramatic when saying ''He was more than that, They didn't know him personally '' blah blah .. Like can you at least appreciate the fact that this great and popular band made a song about him and millions of people know that he existed. They tried to sympathize with the case and Eddie even said the story struck him and he immediately had to write a song about it.

I'm 26 now and it just shocked me. I was happy that Jeremy in this song could spoke about his problems in class. But, reading and studying deep this lyrics, I could get it now. Oh my God! I never understood that this was all about suffering. :(

That kids answer to being bullied and otherwise ignored was to blow his head off in front of those who tormented him. Bet there's not one of those kids that isn't messed up for life because of it. Still just one or two friends would have probably been the difference but nobody had the heart. Very seriously messed up way to learn that life lesson.

For all of you modern fucks who don't know what this song is about, well, here you go:On January 8, 1991, Jeremy Delle, a 15-year-old sophomore, shot himself with a Smith & Wesson Model 19-4 .357 Magnum revolver in front of his second-period English class. Delle's peers described him as "real quiet" and known for "acting sad". Delle was tardy that morning, and after going to his second-period class, he was told to get an admittance slip from the school office for arriving late. Delle left the classroom, but instead of going to the school office he went to his locker where he had the gun concealed, and returned to the classroom with it. Delle walked to the front of the classroom and announced, as his last words, "Miss, I got what I was going for." He then put the barrel in his mouth and pulled the trigger before anyone could react. Lisa Moore, a schoolmate, knew Jeremy from the in-school suspension program: "He and I would pass notes back and forth, and he would talk about life and stuff," she said. "He signed all of his notes, 'Write back.' But on Monday [January 7] he wrote, 'Later days.' I didn't know what to make of it. But I never thought this would happen." The incident inspired the Pearl Jam song "Jeremy". The band's lead singer, Eddie Vedder, read a newspaper account of the incident and was moved to write the song almost immediately.
