Terrific live
And that is how you play Rock n Roll.
That show looked like sooo much fun.
Jimmy is on a league of his own!
It's Lalala lala ! No nanana
Hmmm.....Chris is singing behind the beat. Robert sang just a hair in front of it. Maybe I'm being too harsh but to me it just seems to drag waiting for the vocals to catch up.
Don't care much for a Terry Reid wanna be trying to sing Led Zeppelin
Beats the hell out of the david lee roth version
This song explodes towards the end!
Why does the singer always sound flat in every single performance?
Drummer is good, but his balls are no where near as big as Bonham's were.
Cant replicate bonzo no matter what
I wish Jimmy could play without Led Zeppelin. I mean that solo made me sad...
Jimmy was very rarely ever the guitar wizard that he was back in the day. I know, because I've attended 3 of their concerts in the 70's. ( I'm also a "retired" highly seasoned guitarist/blues harp/singer/perfectionist stage performer and covered tons of Zep tunes over the decades. ) But there is one exception: When Page & Plant toured behind their "Un-Ledded" production on MTV.......about 40 of us from Melbourne Florida took a fleet of vans & hopped over to Orlando to catch their live show. Honestly, we all thought we were simply "paying homage to a half-baked effort" with only 2 original members of Zep. WRONG!!! They shocked the living shit out of the whole crowd!!! Sure, they played a lot of what was on that MTV concert, but then they stripped down to only 5 members, and proceeded to SHRED so many old & great Zep tunes, AND NAILED THEM ALL. I have no words to accurately depict it. BOTH PLANT AND PAGE PERFORMED IMPECCABLY........and Jimmy was using 2 "Matchless" amp heads on 2 half stacks with his #1 LP and his other LP......and HIS TONE WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST I EVER HEARD ANYWHERE, FROM ANY GUITAR, FROM ANYONE, IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! And everyone else agreed. JIMMY PAGE WAS ON FIRE THAT NIGHT. ( early mid 90's ).....They played for well over 2 hours & even did stuff from albums "Houses of The Holy" and "Presence", to name a couple. And so much more. IT BLEW AWAY WHAT PAGE EVER DID WITH THE BLACK CROWES. I was in a van with 8 people & on the way home, we would turn on the stereo, playing CD's and radio, but every time, after about a minute, we would all look at each other & shut that fucker off. Because NOTHING could even touch what we just witnessed & experienced. Page & Plant shoved it down all our throats and made us LIKE IT. They were THAT GOOD. Of course that was probably about the last time Page ever sounded even close to that good. Even Plant's voice was strong that night. I will never forget that show as long as I live......and I'm 57 now.....Hands down the best concert I ever attended......and remember, I saw the real Zep 3 times years before. The drummer they had at the time, I can't remember his name, did a fantastic job of copping Bonham's work. He also died a while back, at a young age too. What a shame. I forget his name, but he was one of the best drummers alive at the time. He's the one playing drums on their MTV "Un-Ledded" concert.
Michael Lee
The best part of these Crowes/Page shows: 1) They played great songs like this that rarely receive radio airplay. If I hear God damn "Stairway To Heaven" (what Plant calls that damn "English wedding song") one more time on radio when I think "Achilles Last Stand" is clearly a better song....... 2) Because of having 3 guitar players on stage, the band were able to cover (most of) Page's innumerable guitar overdubs. As Jimmy said one time, "Ten's Year's Gone" (another tune I like better than God damn "Stairway To Heaven" (what Plant also calls that "nice little cute English folk song")) never sounded so good guitar wise because the song has about 15 gazillion overdubs on it. These concerts were able to fill out the sound. I wish they have played a couple of tracks from the ITTOD period like "South Band Suarez," "Ozone Baby," and "I'm Gonna Crawl," even if Page had lesser involvement with that period of Zeppelin.
Absolutely agree Matt...Achilles, and 10 Years Gone are classics...and Hots On is a great song..of course this isn't as good as the original...no Plant, Jones and Bonham!..but I kick myself in the ass for not going to see them this show at Jones Beach. I saw Zeppelin in June 77 at MSG, and I remember telling my friends, who were going, that I would only go to see a reunion of Zepp...big mistake!!..I watched the whole show on Youtube and they kicked ass and played an excellent setlist..Wanton Song, Out on the Tiles, etc...I read that Page said that was the most fun he had playing 10 Years Gone because of 2nd guitar.
So much for sloppy jimmy he can nail it when wants or not when he wants rock on jimmy
obviously Jimmy is not sloppy here or any other live show -minus the "H"
niterbum- Jimmy was always one of the best. The other, to me of course, would be Peter Green.
This is great, only issue is the miking of the drums - too muffled !!
Just a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle faster fellas.
One of Jimmy's best! The Presence album is so underrated.
I ate that album up! I was 15 years old, had long hair, and girl friends all over the united states back then. Well, some of them weren't even from here. ha ha
I love the Black Crowed and Jimmy Page
Not bad, but still very far from the original's grandeur, mostly due to weak vocals and bassline.
the best song in the album Presence
That would be Achilles Last Stand, the greatest hard rock song ever written.
This is the best song from the most underrated album
Not abig fan of the Black Crows, but this is pretty good.
Nice cover..but nothing on the original.
Jesus - Jimmy is a riff factory. Love hearing rare live songs. Always hear something new. Love the inversion of the second riff back to the first - time change master
try dave groll bio on bonham with carmen appice, bonzo's sister, and all the people played with him, not those who play "like that". plant & bonham communicated in ways comments like "lose robert" have no grasp , at all
I can Die Now!! That was a fekkin great job!!!!!
jimmy sounds fine!!
That singer should replace Robert Plant, keep Jimmy, keep Jon Paul Jones, and I would have said keep that drummer that toured with Robert and Jimmy in their unleaded dvd.
+Sage Mantis You understand that Plant worked a lot on the vocals/lyrics (no shit right?), therefore Led wouldn't be Led without Plant..
Page jpj john Theodore and the robinson Bros would be an awesome band
One of Jimmy's best!
No, this is nothing on the original, but looks like it was fun to try.
Presence is my fave Zep album so this is killer with the Page guitar army. Jimmy opts for a muscular solo without the whammy bar freak out of the record-Love it!
what's wrong with the "whammy bar freak out" ?
Chris sounds a bit tired and under pitch here.
DUDE! This is SO awesome!Thank you for posting!
How did I miss this?
Lucky you, "only" saw Page and Plant, in 94 and 98, and...WAOUW ! :-)
great singing by chris, thanks for sharing
That was awesome.
Page brings out the best in everyone he plays with,AND he's almost 70.
Man, I wish LZ had rocked consistently this hard...helps to have three guitarists..lol..bad friggin ass!!!!
Since Zeppelin never did this song live in concert, this is the next best thing I guess.
Definitely agree. A treat to finally hear Page play this live. But since they decided to have more guitars playing the songs ( a great idea), wonder why they didn't have more back up singing from the other band members on the chorus here? There were enough of them. That multi vocal chorus makes this song particularly special.Go figure......
Never had the chance to see ZEp, but saw P&P in 94 and 98, and waiting for the O2 DVD on monday !In love with Zep, but a little bit more with Jimmy :-)
I saw Zep in '77 and also Page/Plant. Can never get enough!
Just right :-)
Was there, awesome night......
This is amazing. I'm really impressed with the job the Black Crowes did with Led Zep's songs (I'm a die hard Zep fan). Having Jimmy there as well, wow, words can't describe how cool that is. It's also fantastic they played songs even LZ themselves wouldn't play live, like this one here.
This Performance needs a Bonham :'(
when and if we get to heaven it will be a rock fest!!!!!!!
Page at 90 will still kick everyone else's butt.
@p0llenp0ny funny how theres Bonham and then theres everyone else...
Wish it was bonham behind the kit.
I live just 40 minutes from Jones Beach Amphitheater!!!!HOW THE FUCK....DID I..... MISS.....THIS CONCERT!?!?!?!?!?!
Bad Ass!
I just can't like without Robert on vocals... :(Looks like this music was made for him!
@varone6t9 well there's your answer, jimmy is happy to play a song of led zeppelin that never been preformed live before aswell as doing it with a another band. I love this song.
ONe of Zeps greatest underestimated trackS!!!
@vdbdg
@vdbdg Jimmy does look happy and great selection of songs he did w/ the Crowes! The Crowes look heavenly happy too!
grandioso
@GrantGuides Same thing happened to me. I almost shit my pants.
I remember the first time I saw these guys was when they were real new, and me and my pal went to go see em in this club and figures there was only like a 100 people there. A few minutes into the show, Chris Robinson (frontman) comes out onto the stage and says "We would like to present a good friend of ours to the show tonight!" And what do you know. Big Page comes out in a big white suit with his les paul. I turned to my friend and said "Are you kidding me...????!!!!"
@ROCKSTARCRANE Thank you. I'm glad someone else hears how flat he is, and a "thin"voice too. I think C. Robinson got into the band because he's related to the guitarist!
Hell yeah,to me The black crowes singer could feel in for robert plant nowadays. Id rather have him than old robert now.But back in the day definatly robert.
this was july 10th at jones beach 2000 i was there the roseland show was better
this was july 10th at jones beach i was there the roseland show was better
Unbelivable perfection, many thanks for this excellent post!
ive waited so long to c footage of this song being played live..even though its not all of zeppelin, the black crowes did a great job, and Jimmy is just perfect.
That was fucking AWESOME!!!
Jimmy looks a little burnt....and Chris is singing flat all the way thru.....but what a great tune, done by a great band.
Magical performance, Jimmy looks so happy.
Awesome setlist! Can you post In tne Light
