If the story is to be linked to the video for Amalfi, my interpretation of events is the following. Ether's video opens with Noémie's character, presumably the wife of this older fellow enduring his anger and wrath. I think this scene takes place after the events of the video's entirety since the end is the husband opening the door on her waiting on the couch, as if expecting this. In Amalfi, she's out in the city, experiences an outstanding romantic affair with a man her age, and promptly disappears on him after their one night of physical intimacy. Come to find out in Ether, the young man she loved is the son of an older man she's recently married for wealth and status. The emotional turmoil comes to a head when this son visits his father, only to find himself introduced to the new wife, obviously the mysterious woman he lost whenever Amalfi took place. Noémie's character tries to connect with the son to explain or somehow resolve their situation but he's not interested and likely tells his father what happened before he 'disappears like a thief in the night', leaving Noémie alone to face the consequence of her actions.

Furthermore, I believe the twins accompanying the young male in Ether might be symbolic of commentary on the band itself. There was backlash on Hooverphonic's change in musical styling from trip-hop to a more conventional pop since the departure of previous lead singers, Liesje Sadonius and Geike Arnaert. The fact that these twin sisters seem to be always enjoying themselves in the mansion during the story's conflict shows that they're well pleased in the memory they hold in the band's history. Then there's a brief moment in which Noémie's character imagines the twins screeching at her across the dinner table. Perhaps an expression of some of the aforementioned fan backlash. Notice the young male lead leaves the house without the twins, so he's clearly not attached to them and his intention is to move on entirely.

If this video is, in fact, related to the Amalfi one, this song could be the POV of the guy. He feels betrayed cause she is his father's wife, he fakes his smile throughout and he knows she will be just another scar since he will leave the house soon anyway.

Great song no doubt, Great clip. QUESTION: about the actors, specific one actor. The older guy, is he a Belgian actor? Can anybody tell me his name or can someone get me in touch with his manager or whatever casting office? He is a natural, so convincing! Why did I never see him before! He is powerful, fierce and delicate in one breath. I guess this is the part he had to play? Anyway this dude ROCKS Big time! Help me get to this guy anyone? Thanx in advance

@channel Alka I guess art is very subjective after all ;-) What I call art are videos like "Eden" or "Out Of Sight", and basically everything up to the Magnificent Tree era. But then again, it's all a matter of personal opionion. I also liked the later ones, but not as much as some of the earlier ones.I wasn't saying I dislike the song or the video. Just that Hooverphonic can do so  much better. And they did. The song is pleasant, Noémie is a great vocalist, the talent is all there, I just wish they showed it like they used to.
