Thanks for Sharing This Rare & Classic Footage!!!!
willing to bet none of them ever took a music lesson in their lives...all pure individual talent..can't be bought....can't be sold..
So tem fera do jazz!
Blows my mind when i see live footage of the trumpet gods
Lee Morgan played the trumpet the way Miles Davis wished he could have played.
I sure agree with you raoul. Much more melodic for my money.
DELIGHTFUL LEE !!!!! ☆☆☆☆☆
Jazz or rather Black Classical Music as Lee Morgan once put it. The oppressor may have stole our land, sold our people into slavery and looted our minerals, but they can never take away the blessings that God poured upon all black people. Our souls remain intact.
@BabaStiletto your telling me too what not to say. Lee Morgan !
Many of These Geniuses of The Jazz Artform Had No Choice, But To Go Abroard — To Europe, In Mosy Cases, Where they Could Indeed Earn a Living Along With The Respect That They So Deserved !!!!
Beautiful words and absolutely true. Our lives would be unbearable sad, a desert land without the indigenous and the black people so strongly adherent to the celebration of life and art
@Wayne Colburn it's "you're" not your..and there is you calling people dumb
@Deborah W Hardwick why do you capitalise every word in your sentence?
Great story teller. Lee Morgan. My hero.
情感 美 苦悩 陰影 深淵 哲学 愛 etc. 素晴らしい!!
Who the f*** is Stacy to deserve such magic dedicated to her?!
Regality...I LOVE THIS! Sidewinder too!
Wow!! This guy got me hooked on jazz!!
straight ahead jazz played correctly very little improvisation needed
Lee Morgan, trumpetJohn Gilmore, tenor saxJohn Hicks, piano Victor Sproles, bassArt Blakey, drums
Thanks for that, because ten seconds of John Hicks was blowing me away. Now why I don't have more of him...no clue.
Great playing...terrible perm
He was covering a burn he got nodding out on heroin, he was slumped over on a radiator and didn't notice till he sobered up. Poor guy.
DUB __ That was his natural hair. He didn't have a perm. He was covering the radiator burn. He had a drug problem, but got clean.
@42Laj I don't think he ever got clean
Lee Morgan, simply Brilliant!
Is it true that Art is responsible for getting his side men hooked on skag?
Probably.....only they know what really went on.
Cruptbside! Thats All You Can Talk Of Is Jerry Springer Type Stuff--Enjoy The Music Man!
that's what I heard..apparently Blakey had a life long heroin habit but it never got the better of him like it did others
Lee. Simply Brilliant. Thank you for posting this gem.
Is this the same pianist that played with the Wes Montgomery quartet for so long? On beautiful cuts like "Here's That Rainy Day"?
+jamal jabbar John Hicks?
First heard Lee Morgan on Jimmy Smith's "Flamingo"! Been a huge fan ever since!
The great lee Morgan
there are 4 Other guys playing! who are they?
+Dick Roche - I think I found the piano player - I went to a book I have called HARD BOP ACADEMY by Alan Goldsher - the book is about Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and has a lot of pictures - the picture of Walter Davis Jr. (who played briefly with Blakey in the mid 60's) matches the gentleman playing piano with the group
Didn't John end up with Sun Ra? I saw the in Was D.C.
The Jazz Messengers had many different lineups.. the players here are Lee Morgan, trumpet; John Gilmore, tenor sax; John Hicks, piano; Victor Sproles, acoustic double bass; Art Blakey, drums
@cruptbside Gilmore was with Sun Ra for a long time
My #1 favorite trumpeter
+Pepper Williams Lee Morgan was a bad motherfoya! Died too young!
A co-worker turned me onto Lee Morgan (had never heard of him). Absolutely love this kind of jazz. Plus a special treat with Blakey playing.
Ouu yeah ! The best!
EVERY note by all the group is etched into my brain ! / if someone asked me ..." What is Jazz ?" ...i would play this for them
Oh so SWEET!!!
Damn, the BBC is so awesome! Imagine this on NBC in 1965!
BBC 4 didn't exist in 1965 - so don't feel too bad about the NBC - this would have been shown much later ;)
@Jacquie Paumier this was shown on the bbc at the time..nothginmg to do with BBC4
So excellent.

いつも音だけだから、動いてるLee Morgan観るとやっぱりなんかイ・ワ・カ・ン
The tune is actually called Lament for Stacey, which was recorded on S'Make It (1964) with this band + Curtis Fuller.
