Magic...
Spectacular. RIP and God bless
I have been on a musical journey the whole of my life. Then recently I run in to Lateef "Dreamer album" what can I say except why did it take so long to find this genius of music. May the music be with You all. Al x
Sometimes the time must by ripe to find a new step to go further........YUSEF may be your SPIRITUAL Guide ! I listen to him since 40 years andnow his whole work. This IS a real MASTER. Enjoy as many of his tunes asyou can, it will be a MYSTIC JOURNEY.........Greetings from Switzerland
Beautiful Jazz Standard Variation !
Love his sound. Flute players here: can you get this sound from a cheap flute?
Flute player here:You can get a beautiful sound out of every flute! With cheap flutes, it will be more difficult and energy-consuming.Expensive flutes with high-quality material and craft make it effortless!
Look!!! What will happen if in the music conservatory they give you that freedom to play what you like what you want what you feel..... im glad i scaped from that cage years ago....and i always will be a free flute player.....too. im not tied to a sheet of paper...or only under the permitted or accepted ways of playing...though i play with a beautiful clean tone too. If you could reach that...you are free then to play anyway....anywhere.
Very special indirect occurrence involving Mr. Lateef. I had ordered his 'Improvising Soul' method book years ago. Once ordering the book, at first, I excitedly waited for its arrival. No response for weeks...then months, until, finally, I had forgot about ordering it altogether. Long story short, A YEAR PLUS LATER, I receive this Manila envelop package . I having NO idea what the envelop contained. To my surprise ( and delight), it was the method book by Brother Lateef I had ordered over a year previous. If that wasn't surprise enough, I was blown away that the package included a single dollar bill and a short note from Mr.Lateef. First, he apologized for getting the book to me so late, explaining -- at the time, he was in East Africa studying. In the note, he went on, mentioning that I had paid a dollar too much. Needless to say, I was blown away by this humble gesture of his.Unfortunately, I lost this treasure, along with my entire record collection when my parent's home was destroyed in the infamous, Hurricane Andrew in South Florida
... thanks for the interesting post !!! Wish you all the best !!!
I'm going to try and find you a copy of Mr. Lateef's book. I will let you know.

One of the greatest Jazz Flautists ever
Was very fortunate to see this group at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco, Ca. in June 1974. Love Yusef's flute work here, shows his education and interest in Eastern music, almost sounds Egyptian....Kenny B's piano work so smooth and complementary, as is rhythm section. Did compliment Tootie Heath in restroom during set break...haha..Keystone was a unique place, very small and intimate. Perfect venue for jazz. Check out book Keystone Korner: Portrait of a Jazz Club.
this is why i love the loop tab!
Me hace viajar al pasado y al futuro en un solo viaje valga la redundancia
One of the most underrated players ever.
One of best flutist ever to live you will be missed

Excellent Musicians n wonderful Music.
6:09 the sounds of a good jazz musician
WOW ! kind of meditation what a bless. RIP Yusef..
Masterpiece! it seems Debussy inspired many jazzmen. Yusef is an actual Mozart of the 20th century. The number of music pieces he wrote is incredible and of so many different styles. He composed for symphony orchestra, chamber music as well and even dodecaphonic pieces. He played jazz also from bop to modern world music. He is definetely the kind of person whose life has made our world a better place to live in! A mistic musician! Thanks Yousef and thanks for posting.
... ok, please !!! thanks for the interesting post !!!Wish you all the best !!!
Actually, I think most of our earlier jazzmen were classically-trained musicians. Eric Dolphy was a orchestra-grade bass clarinettist, but could not get work due to fact that orchestras were not into hiring black musicians. When you take things like this into consideration, Jazz had to happen just so those black Bachs, beethovens, mozarts could get recognized.
I love Yusef but NOBODY but Mozart is "actual" Mozart (whatever that means) for all the centuries. Your comment shows how little you understand and appreciate genius like Mozart.
Omg yusss
albert heath is baddd on the brushes
Great tone ..wondering if it is a solid silver flute.
One of the best sound of music on the Planet. Love it.
This is very seductive music; masterfully played.
they all played great, peaceful and beautiful music(al heath !)
on his flute.hes what coltrane is on his sax
How wonderful and beautiful are we as human beings. What can be achieved is from God as we are from God. Sheer joy in this performance from a beautiful performer.
Brother Yusef....Magic!
Lindo demais!
Thanks.
When I was 20 in '76 I had the perfect pleasure to see him at the Lighthouse in LA. After the show, when the crowd had cleared, I could still hear him and the band. I followed the sound to their dressing room. I stayed and listened while they jammed, just on the other side of the door. It was magic.
Percoset. molly percoset
One must be careful in love and hate. Time and words can't be recalled, even if it was only yesterday. Lovely Lateef track.
AWESOME
Love his vibrato and phrasing...........a true pioneer on flute
I can not found the DVD!

Maravilloso.
Me encanta!
What a jazz lover bee :)
Müthiş!
Had a privilege to see him play twice. One of the greatest musician, and composer.
BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!!! WHAT A SOUND!!!
Syrinx! :)
Simple amazing !!
William Emmanuel Huddleston - YUSEF LATEEF - October 9, 1920-December 23, 2013 - R.I.P. Shared on G+ Oct 9, 2016
haha, he starts with a variation of Debussy's Syrinx
And that's where contemporary flute ended (?)
He does the "lip flex" like Julius Baker.
King Lateef, the bridge.
Who wrote this song?
Jerome Kern.
Yet another example of Lateef's genius. A true artist in every respect.
What a privilege to witness this. Wow
Absolutely beautiful
Not many sax players pick up a flute and make every flute player listen in awe! :)
+brandex2011 you also cant forget frank Wess or Eric eric dolphy
+brandex2011 Benny Carter could play saxophone and trumpet as well - Ornette Coleman, too, but his trumpet playing was a bit unhortodox
Well, so was his saxophone playing.
You're right about that. Yusef was a man apart, a visionary... there was something saintly about him, in the most modest way imaginable.About tenor men who knew their way around the flute, and then some, don't forget Rahsaan Roland Kirk!
The Best sax/flute doubler IMHO was Joe Farrel.........there was no compromise on either instrument.
what more can we ask more after this beauty?
Marvelous,meeting of art ,genious!
Beautiful! Thanks for uploading!
The intro is a huge rip of Debussy's Syrinx......go listen to James Galway lol
Hermoso
beautiful.
Beautiful!
he begins with syrinx, and his endings is with syrinx...
such a good ear. :)
What kind of rap is this?
Silent Wood The kind that lays hard big wood in your pipe!!!
Was he playing Debussy in the beginning?
yes!!! he was!!! Syrinx...
What is the nam of that song ?,
+jazzflutist "Yesterdays" is a song composed by Jerome Kern which became a jazz standard. It does not include the Syrinx quote :)
Yesterdays, check out JJJohnson at the opera house
Song?....... Funny, I don't hear anybody singing.
This is disarmingly beautiful. Those ascending notes which are the hallmark of this song, gain a premonitory feel at the hands of Mr. Lateef.
the begening sounds like Debussy sea.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY brother, thank you for the wonderful music through all these years
Beautiful improvisation by Kenny Barron. Always brilliant...
im sad I'm just now finding out this man even existed
+Bro Sakham, natural medicine works I can't understand how it is these Jazz masters, who were some of the most skilled musicians ever in history, aren't regarded much more highly than they are today.
@BrainToMush Shame we gotta dig for em
very beautiful
eines meiner liebsten Stücke von und mit Yusef Lateef.....ein altes Stück aber eine ganz wunderschöne Präsentation.......hört mal rein, es lohnt sich!!
The bit of reverb makes a beautiful sound
Beautiful song by Yulee Lateef:Yesterday
Godspeed, brother Yusef!
Thanks for putting this up! :)
Man .... I wish I could play like that, beautiful tone quality and music from the heart. Amazing ........Peace -TC~
Practise man, you are nearly there,by knowing a quality goal, have good feedback(earphones)some reverb and listen to JJJohnson ,Operahaouse,he is playing a bit faster, but solid(and on trombone!!)
@Hermann Otto Thank you for the encouraging words and tips, I really appreciate your reply and all the very best to you sir ......
exquisite, as are most of yusef's output.
The great Yusef Lateef...this music is magical, truly wonderful.
This music wil last for ever, thank Yusef for it.
