Brian, Roger and John were heart broken when they lost Freddie. After the tribute concert in 92, John was done. Adam Lambert was the greatest gift for Roger and Brian and so respectful to Freddie’s legacy. We saw them two years ago and they were amazing. Since the movie so many new fans have found them. It’s so good to see them on top again.

Sounds to me like a talented but too-theatrical singer and his grandpa's friends' cover band, attempting Queen songs, but trying too hard to 'make it his own'.... Brian and Roger should have gone with a soundalike such as Marc Martel and _really_ brought the magic that we all grew up listening to! And before someone says that would make them their own tribute band, what other songs are they doing?

You have it backwards. Martel, as talented as he is, is the cover band. NOT Brian and Roger. They are the magic you grew up listening to. Are you a fan of Freddie, or of Marc? This idea that Queen become a cover band if they don't write new songs is absurd logic. Anyway, they did write new songs with Rodgers. Maybe it didn't work out, but they did try. Do they have to keep trying every couple years or so to ensure they aren't called a cover band? Again, absurd.

Critics of the idea of using Martel over Lambert claim that would make Queen their own tribute band because it would sound like they just got someone to impersonate Freddie, but I disagree. Marc's a lot more than just an impersonator, he's a strong singer and musician in his own right. And doing their old songs is fine -- every aging band does it, the purpose of which is to hearken back to a heyday. An even more effective hearkening back would be a lead vocalist who is not _just_ a gifted singer, but one who actually sounds like the one who was tragically lost. Fans who love Queen's music don't do so because of a really really talented original guitarist, drummer, background vocalist, or the novelty of septuagenarian musicians still playing. In other words, Brian and Roger alone aren't the magic (sorry to break that to them). We love their music because of the epic front man we remember and love, the magic _his voice_ imparted to it, the feelings _his voice_ evoked in us as we remember when and where we were when we first heard it. And that magic is best rekindled by someone who actually sounds like him, not by someone who can (ugh!) 'make their songs his own'.... The fact that Brian and Roger are still part of the sound isn't IMO enough. The unique Queen sound requires a lead vocalist who at least sounds _something_ like the original. Adam's a good singer and all, but he's too much his own artist. He doesn't make me think of Queen, he makes me think of a really good singer _covering_ Queen. Distractingly so, causing the ear to constantly compare his effort with the original, and (to me and many others) come up short in that effort. Marc makes me think of Queen in its heyday. Journey learned that, and Arnel Pineda sounding so much like Steve Perry is a smart move by the original members -- a move that Brian and Roger could take a lesson from. Arnel sounds a lot like Steve just naturally, in the same way that Marc naturally sounds a lot like Freddy. And sure, he dolls it up a bit with a lot of Freddie's vocal mannerisms, studying as he has how Freddie sounded early versus late, etc. But he's a talented singer and musician in his own right, not just an impersonator. He naturally sounds a lot like Freddie apart from those mannerisms (check out his earlier non-Queen work for proof). I just think he'd be a better fit, and would make Queen an even bigger success here in their later years than they already are. Because of the 'Freddie magic' he would bring back to their songs.

Probably one of the best vocals of modern pop, especially in his original stuff.But still I'm a Marc-type, because I feel that the only vocals in a Queen song that would ever sound good is vocals of Freddie or someone who resembles his as closely as possible. And that's why I like Martel more, especially now when he got his stage presence thing figured out. And Adam's vocals... Well they sound weird in a Queen song. What's amazing is how when Brian and Roger were on American Idol, you could see Brian trying not to show favoritism towards Adam and that he looked like he was hiding that he already knew what was going to happen but also knew he had to share time with the other guy on that stage, but we could all see it, Brian just knew Adam was it.
