He is not going to hit her he's going to shoot her. this is the old blues not the first time a song talked about shooting someone.
To jazzy never cared for jazz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHOHeH_qMzw LITTLE WALTER COVER
This should be the NBA and NFL Theme Song....
YOU CANNOT BE POLITICALLY CORRECTHENT ABOUT OLD SCHOOL BLUES-'IF YOU DO YOU'RE THROUGH;AND THEN IF YOU TRY YOU DIE! AN OLD BLUESMAN TOLD ME THIS WHILE AT STATEVILLE UNIVERSITY',
This is the real deal here!
For all you PC types - this is a simple little ditty about a girl who has made a decision that she doesn't want her man no mo' so he's looking for her and when he finds her he will punch her into unconsciousness. What's the problem?
I respectfully disagree my friend, He ain't talkin' puchin' nobody. "When I get her in my sights." Man, he gonna SHOOT a bitch!
Little Walter was infamous for his short fuse and always packed a piece.Boom boom as in double tap!
Mess with the bull, get the horns
lol I always thought that he wanted to kill her because she cheated on him
@Richard Markham Recorded in a much different time wouldn't you say?

I love the blues all my life when I was 10 years old my mama says what are you doing in the shower I said. Just feeling good Ma
I skipped a line on accident and all I saw was feeling good and shower...
who the hell thumbs down this haha
Battered wives?
This is Nobel Prize worthy, no doubt. Not every day you hear a negro singing about beating up his girlfriend. Wait, on second thought...I still like Andy Williams's version better. The Carpenters version is pretty good too.
like another incredible record that you just can't defend - He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss) - you'd wonder how this ever got out of the traps. You can rationalise or interpret it all you want, but its pretty clear what he means. Then again you have Hey Joe, and countless modern hip-hop and reggae records that put this in the shade for misogyny. It's definitely a guilty pleasure. Thanks for uploading.
Walter is missed very much. May. He r.i.p
It's da BLUES not Walt Disney. This is a great song. How many crazy beeches put a knife in the ol man's back, eh? Life is not all PC beer and skittles.
☆William Koppos Tell the truth.
A black guy who beats up women, well now I have seen everything!
+RWDS You haven't see much.
That's totally a white guy thing. Always has been.
I remember, I wanted to play this song at the Boys' & Girls' Club. My boss said no. Too violent. It's still one of my favorites.
he had a great voice too
I love Curtis Salgado when he blows on that harp, and Norton Buffalo was always amazing, but Little Walter is bad ass!
No kiddin', I'm ready to fightI've been lookin' for my baby all nightIf I get her in my sightBoom, boom, out go the lightsI thought I treated my baby fairAnd now she's gettin' all in my hairIf I get her in my sightBoom, boom, out go the lightsNo kiddin', I'm ready to goWhen I find her boy don't you knowIf I get her in my sightBoom, boom, out go the lightsI never been so mad beforeWhen I found out she ain't mine no moreIf I get her in my sightBoom, boom, out go the lights
Wow! I didn't realize this was the original version! As it is with most original versions (save for Kim Carnes' version of "Bette Davis Eyes," which was really the really awesome remake of a bad country song) this is the very best version!!! Great song!
little walters a badass, the only man in the rock and roll hall of fame for harmonica alone.great song love the tone of his harp setup.
Boom Boom love the feel.....best harp player Big Walter Horton
What an awesome song.
ohhhhh yes love you walter makes me so happy wish i had this on record rip little walter bad ass fuckin love it
The title of this song is "Boom, Boom, Out GO the Lights," not "...out GOES the Lights." Can you correct it, please?
Steve DeHaven ???
best harmonica player ever
Check me out...I will be playing all of Walter's songs...playing back-up (my style) in every one of his videos. I am "Mr Music"...no one has ever been born that has half the music that is in my soul ...Look for Me to make a cover of this very video …BUT…. with me playing my harmonica along with Walter.
fucking tight ass god damn song
This has sparked an interesting debate. Clearly the harp playing and general melody are spectacular. But this song and lyrics are clearly mysoginistic. Not to judge any person but to review as a theme it would be interesting to take popular music through the years and create a history of mysoginy though popular music. That would be a pretty cool social investigation. Shake, Rattle and Roll also comes to mind.
+Brett Summers _ Why are you not willing to judge a misogynist? Are you scared because he's a people of color misogynist? Where on the hierarchy of politically correct guilt do you place misogyny vs people who wrote misogynistic music who are of color? As a white male do you feel you should be listening to this music at all? What gives you the privilege to enjoy misogynistic people of color music? Think it through before you start your dissertation.
+ManInTheBigHat - The first time I heard Boom Boom it was the Pat Travers Band version. I was in grade nine (the 1970's) and naively believed that the lyrics meant the singer was going to punch out the guy messing with his girlfriend. It wasn't until some time later that I realized that was not the case. Then I stumbled across the original. My point was it would be interesting to gauge the history tolerance of misogyny in relation to popular music. I appreciate your comments but you misinterpreted what I stated. It is hard to judge anyone one what their opinions are set against the social morays of the time. i.e., Bill Hailey's Shake, rattle and roll. Today there had been tremendous inroads in education surrounding domestic violence. Society has a much different tolerance for domestic violence than in the past. Music is a great tool to teach as well.
I think that would be a pretty dull
you expect the blues to be politically correct?
I don't like this song. The sound is great but oh my goodness what evil lyrics.
+MHRSandwich X _ Liking the sound makes you guilty.
@ManInTheBigHat No... (I meant the style of music, btw.) But no.
you cant be serious
Lucy, Little Walter was a charismatic, and an incredible harp player. Big Walter Horton was however, a better harmonica player.
+kaavin Techically but he didn't have the ear for a tune like Walter. Big Shakey had the licks but it has to be more than that. And Walter created standards.
4 People got knocked the fuck out.
TheBadmanCrab he's not talking about knocking people out, he's talkin about a more permanent solution
greatest harp player ever - simple as that...............
Walter Horton was great - check out his work with Muddy Waters
Jeffrey Jackson Sonny Boy Williamson is the GOAT
whats funny is I think LITTLE Walter is the best. But if he was living he would say his role model. Sonny Boy Williamson I is the GOAT
Lucy Howell Lucy that's your opinion great !.. there have been some incredible Blues, Country, jazz etc harp players last hundred years.. to say someone is the best period is doing a disservice to all these great artists.. why not just say your favorite harmonica who happens to be one of the greatest.. to call someone the greatest is very subjective..
Certainly an opinion that's valid... but for me it's Big Walter
Love the Harp playing!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Muito bom !
The song is about his woman cheating on him, which makes him so angry he feels like shooting her. This was a common theme in a lot of blues songs. And for all of you overly sensitive, Politically Correct pussies, I suggest you go back to Justin Beiber.
You must not know or truly understand blues music.
+southwriter i misunderstood your post saying the song is about being so angry and feel like shooting his woman was a common theme in alot of blues songs. Was you saying that's what all blues songs are talking about? or just certain blues has that theme? I ain't trying to start argument or anything i'm just asking a question. I love blues music i play harmonica and i like little Walter howlin wolf and sonny boy Williams 1 &2 and james cotton
Just some of them. You need to realize it was a different time and hardships that people today can't fathom, and blues music reflects those hardships (as opposed to Beyonce or Justin Beber).
I agree with you and also realize the different time and hardship Singing about the past when men and women were slaves and blues to me is pain sadness but the music is them rasing above it all i guess idk. Blues is good music unlike beyonce or justin bieber. Some people don't know good decent music.
+GmJunky87 thanks for saving that. case closed! bless up and enjoy the muzic!
no one could cover this song any better than pat travers band
Pats version was way better
You're a fucking idiot.
Leon Childs jr fucking hell... always the original is best!
Yep, seen him play it live. After this song I handed him a glass of white wine (what he wanted) on stage. Great show at a small venue in Seattle.
@John Rapp You're fucking GAY. You need your boi-pussy kicked.
one of the giants at his very best.
King tone
He carried a pistol and liked to fight, acted crazy at times, and was knifed to death.
BushPilot444 he wasn’t knifed to death. He got into a fight and died from a blood clot in his heart
"No kidding, I'm ready to fight, I been lookin' for my baby all night, if I get her in my sight, BOOM BOOM out go the light" He's gonna knock that cheatin bitch out! That's supported by interviews of folks who knew and played with Little Walter.
Never shoot a cheat! Boom-boom -- out go her/his bags (with her/him to the curb)!
Great memories of this one. I haven't heard this version in a good while. This one moves just soooooo right. This is STILL king tone, baby! Thanks, Little Steven!
I don't think he was gone shoot her,but maybe a left and a right and out goes the lights
walter was a bad boy, and any interpretation of this song other than he was going to shoot the woman who done him wrong is farcical.
Agreed sir, He's talking about shooting her! This is like OG gangsta rap....but you know, with some talent.
Domestic violence is not cool, nor are the songs that glorify it. This song isn't about beating on a woman, he's looking for her, to get her back and make love to her.
You're an idiot.
Seriously, just enjoy it for the greatness it represents and think about the era from which it came. It’s the Blues, not really meant for softies such as yourself.
Trusha Raval he’s gonna fuck her up 😂😂😂
I was brought up by a MAN who tought me that there is no right way to hit a woman. EVER. PERIOD. It doesn't matter who the woman is, the song is about hitting women. I never said it wasn't a good song, and my bar band may even play it. The point is, that's what the song is about.
From what I have seen, most women that cheated were not the docile kind of women that would put up with a man beating her ...a woman like that would put out some lights so ya better not be trying to hit her cause she will give you a run fo yo money fo sho...ijs lol
Good save.
Nice try. It's about beating his woman. Great tune, but the subject is a little "iffy".
not about hurting her ... he gonna lay to rest whomever is loving his lady then take her home and ahhhh well boom boom oh yeah baby so she will neva stray again
tks for the info! I inherited a C harp a while back, which I play when I'm stuck in traffic. But I never know what key a song is in (not musically trained), so I turn off the radio and play by the seat of my pants. Believe it or not I've actually started not to sound like an alley cat in heat!
Peeps you can play along to this w/ an A harp
Don't kid yourselves. This is a song a guy who wants to punch his woman out. This kind of thing was considered acceptable behavior in many circles back then.
You are correct sir. Misogyny at it's finest! And you can dance to it, too!
Rumor has it that OJ had contiuous loops of Hey Joe and Boom Boom Out Goes The Lights durng the fateful Bronco chase..........
The real title is "Boom Boom out go the light". Pat Travers cover added the "s"
I don't know - sounds like he wants to clock her to me...
I, too, always thought he was singing about finding this woman and punching her out. I'm happy to be told of a better meaning.
@faraat3000 AGREED! I've loved this song for decades and never once did I even THINK of it having anything to do with punching her...!!!! Back in the '50s "out goes the lights" was an easy reference to lovemaking.
@y2boi123 Lol!!!!
Thank you...
BOOM BOOM gonna knock that cheating bitch out lol
looking 4 her all night boom boom out goes her light
@9mingus Agreed. Little Walter paved the way for gangsta rap.
God, what a classic!!! This is what the blues are all about! Yeah, THAT"S what i'm talking about
a little bit of misogyny?
Uh oh...stinky...poo haha stinky poo ...poo funny...funny poo ...haha stinkyyyy alalalalalalaallala haha ..... pooopp
Q. What do you tell a women with 2 black eyes.A. Nothing, you already told her twice. But I digress.
@bull068 Hey if you wanna interpret the lyrics in this song as.. shooting the woman.. go ahead
i cant beleive i never heard of this guy,i am blown away
What he was gonna do is up to YOU to decide. The main thing is,he was a brother that didnt take no shit
@Honeysucklebommie Yes, I sure have checked out Checkin' It Out. TS McPhee is one of my heroes. The Groundhogs are my favourite band! I really dig Hound Dog Taylor, too. I saw KBB in Kingston once and he rocked the joint. I also saw Crowbar at Queen's University and it was the most fun I ever had at a concert. (The ORIGINAL Crowbar, not the American heavy metal thing. ) Take care! :)
@rogerstill71 Just read your other reply. I have that album too mate, we must like the same stuff in blues; there is not a lot of Rick Newel KBB on utube at the moment., Have you got into Billy Boy Arnolds album "Checkin it out"? It f'n smokes. Theres most of the good tracks from it on utube, They only got 100 views ! Paste in: I wish you would,Billy boy Arnold Tony McPhee.. Billy Boy Arnold 1/2/99 . Billy Boy Arnold Dont stay out all night." Dirty mother""Dont stay out all night,
@Honeysucklebommie Oh. Well, in that case, i agree with you 100%. You can't justify hitting a LADY. Cheers!
As much as I like Little Walter, I must admit I like King Biscuit Boy's version better. It's on the "Good'uns" album.
@Honeysucklebommie Sorry, buddy, but there is. If a crazy woman attacks you for no reason, you're perfectly entitled to nail her. (Happened to me twice, I had FEMALE witnesses, and the cops listened to reason those times. No charges against me, and I even got a ride home from the cops one of those times) and I'm NOT a violent man by any means.
Classic.
@gottadance04 Agreed theres no excuse to belt any woman.
good ol' domestic violence
Sometimes you have to read between lines. Words aren't always what they seem. "I'm ready to go when I find her, boy don't you know"...The man has something to prove.
ADORE this ☺ Thanks for the post, appreciate it! Phwoaaaaaaar! ☺ (Wouldnt mess with LW though ;0))
Dec 55......I've been lookin' for my baby all night If I get her in my sight boom boom! out go the lights I thought I treated my baby fair and now she's gettin' all in my hair If I get her in my sight boom boom! out go the lights No kiddin' I'm ready to go when I find her boy don't you know If I get her in my sight boom boom! out go the lights I never been so mad before when I found out she ain't mine no more If I get her in my sight boom boom! out go the lights
@9mingus That is hands down the dumbest comment I have ever read.
me and me bro' are just getting this bite..big style. god bless Little Walter.
Hey joe from Hendrix is not to bad to speak about killing women lol
the other one kicks this one's ass
Just to let you know... this song is not about punching, it's about killing....
hi, i was initially going to upvote your response but then i realized it was actually quite an ordinary thing that you said and wasn't really deserving of it.Look at 9mingu's response for example of something interesting and original.thx!
The old ones are always the best
great tune!! Thanks 1BB1!
Che bello!!!
