Clapton's an overrated musical sycophant. He didn't write Layla, he also didn't solo on the popular version of Cocaine (another one he didn't write - JJ Cale did). Albert Lee played all the tasty out-of-the-box stuff on the live version of Cocaine. How such a bland, predictable, uninspired, inside the box conservative player like Clapton ever got the "guitar god" moniker is the 8th wonder of the world.

While Tull was recording Aqualung Zeppelin was in the next studio recording Zeppelin 4. While Martin was playing the Aqualung guitar solo he looked up and there's Jimmy Page jumping up and down like a cheerleader screaming and yelling and cheering him on! Martin had to turn around because he couldn't look at Page or he would lose his concentration. Page loves that solo as one of his favorites.
