man this song was inspired by an Old English poem called "The wanderer"; it's about a young man trying to find his faith in this life, whenever to believe in God or not. While being exiled and living in solitude, he thinks and meditates about this world, first remembering the good times in his life, when he was happy. Then he gets to understand despair and sorrow of this world, regretting his mistakes and blaming gods for his misfortune then he has come to understand that life is full of hardships, impermanence, and suffering, and that stability only resides with God.Think of it like a personal development debate, to be a good man who believes in God or to be a beast "strongest survive" thing. there is much more to say about this but you have to check it for yourself.

I disagree, I really love Wintersun and first two Ensiferum albums, but the other Ensiferum music is great too. Especially Victory songs and From Afar.

And forget about that "softer" all over, i just tried to find a word for his changing in music from "fight for ur destiny" to "find urself in darkness". I like everything he does, as much as i like what Ensi does these days.

Ur wrong, because this a creation of all members of ensiferum at this state. It has infuences of Wintersun, but much more of Ensiferum.

Lyrics of first two albums are written by Jari, that's why it gives Wintersun vibes. Lost in despair has both music and lyrics composed by Jari, so it sounds really Wintersunny.
