Imagine if a group wad made up of dexter on tennor desmond on alto oscar on piano and paul chambers on bass

Love Kenny drew solo

Great 'modern jazz'-meets-'bop', perhaps the first 'post-bop', lol, and made way out west. Leroy Vinnegar was the walkingest' bass-man around along with Ray Brown. Mr. Gordon is going for his 'bird sounds and high notes but his strength is his effortless phrasing like sonny rollins, his killer melodic licks, and his superb, propulsive, almost even-8s swing in the solo. great post. thanks! peace
Swings so hard.

What great players
Approx 10yrs later (1964) I saw/heard him in CPH (Copenhagen,Denmark) with Kenny Drew, NHØP,and Alex Riel, It was GREAT
Slightly more ahead the beat, while Parker's was more dead center. Very interesting to listen to and compare the two versions.
Love Dexter Gordon. His tone and phrasing are so tasty
Bird had the chops and Trane had the vision, but Dex always sounded the best IMO.
I'm a Rollins man myself. Love all except Trane. Good stuff.
Kenny and them fuckin tritone subs
There are just sooo many great versions of Confirmation, this is certainly one of the finest of the hundreds I've heard!
18の時に下北の店で偶然手に取った彼のSwissnight🎵あれからずーっと彼と彼の絡むトリオの音の虜です…堪らなく癒される🍀
Like a waterfall of notes
dext was good but sonny Rollins was the man on b flat tenor sax
But would you be happy if you couldn't listen to Dexter? Let's enjoy both!
Sonny Rollins was good but no one could beat Dex at playing ballads.
@Jorvaskrr & Donald Gaddy: What's with all the past tense. Sonny may not be as active as he once was, but he's still with us. Let's not bury him before his time.

Dudes - "Tenor Madness" wasn't recorded until 1956! Tenor madness probably a reference to this intro! Flipped!
+Brian Stark Tenor Madness was a cover of Royal Roost (Rue Chaptal), recorded by Kenny Clarke in 1949.
intro is from Charlie Parkers original recording.

ah glorious invention. This is the groovy kind of playing that makes me want to hug complete strangers just to transmit the feeling it inspires.
Why does YouTube list Ornette Coleman as the artist? Oh well, both are wonderful
my mistake! apologies
tenor madness was released 1956
That's because it's most likely a reference to it ;)
Aika vitun makeeta ! Dex is the MAN!
ーん?わー
Leroy V always played with such a great feel. Nothing fancy - just right!
@Docnolan1953 Hey Doc this unbelievable.. Dexter introduces and then resolves some freaky whole-tone intervals - amazing. Again the embouchure..Dexter is a whole - perhaps the whole - new thing. He's not going to give you bent notes on that horn, cheek puffs, hurting vibrato, honks - he's only using that stuff sparingly if at all. As a result Dexter becomes the most wailing of all jazz men. For melody-statement, then replacement, phrased against rhythm - he's the top. regards
anyone else hear the first 4 notes and think tenor madness?
So great!
Its definitley Leroy Vinegar on bass! beautiful sounds!
