I believe the song is referring to problems in life, and how they constantly build up. “They” are the problems. They start off small, you solve them. They show you how to swim in the beginning like so. Then they throw you in the deep end. Which the problems just hit you in the face with greater force out of nowhere. When he says he’ll not float, he’s referring to never solving anything, because they just comeback and get worse. When he says he WILL float, he is now talking about a drug to get high on, to make his mind think that his problems will go away, but at the end, they never do.

2:33 - 3:06 is my favorite part but the way Jesse says "me" at 2:50 just does something to me. He tells a fucking story in that one word. A story of pain, hardships, and regret. And at the end when he's like "what if I...what if I don't float? What if I don't float? I think I'll float...float away." It just breaks my heart how vulnerable he sounds. How lost. Yet when he says "float away," he sounds so at peace. Does that mean he feels he can only find peace in his floating away (his death)?

i kinda have my own take on these lyrics. people say that its about stepping into the real world for the first time, but for me i think its because when i was in 8th grade i moved to a rough school and there was this one guy who told me what and what not to do when ur at shool, he said if i broke any of these rules the older kids will beat the crap out of me. i broke them all and i was beat to a pulp, no body liked me, i was alone and sad and desperate for a friend. and things were like that until i moved out of that town during the spring of my freshmen year.

Don't you think it's slightly suspect that they chose to use specifically those symbols to represent simple terms? The eye stands for the letter "i", alright, not much mystery there, but there is no clear explanation as to why they chose to put it inside of an *upside-down* triangle. However, if it were right-side up, you could easily infer that it represents the eye providence, which typically denotes a divine entity watching over humanity as some omnipresent authority figure. But the upside-down version in this instance represents the exact opposite of what is signified by the eye of providence. Freedom, independence, etc.
