I know Mr. Haynes wrote this song but this guy made it all right! This is my all time favorite version of this song. Just a little B.B. with a dash of Luther Allison and a pinch of Albert Collins makes for a great recipe.

Nice version. Was lucky enough to see the Mule play it when they were in Australia earlier this year.Larry does an amazing version of the Stone's Ventilator Blues with Clarence Gatemouth Brown. I recommend anyone who loves the blues to listen to it. It can be found on the tribute album, Paint it Blue.

At the end when he held that note on his guitar, it gave me goosebumps, that was AWESOME! !

Larry is one of the coolest, down to earth men I have ever met. I have met him a few times now & can call him a friend. My nephew played harp with Larry at a few shows & Larry gave him the name Quickdraw.. If you ever get a chance to see him live, all I can say is... You gotta go !! A large venue or a small club, Larry always gives everything he has..... Very under rated, under appreciated.....He is right up there with the best.....

I had the pleasure of seeing Larry perform in Chicago this past summer at a block party put on by the Crossroads Bar and Grill. This guy sings with more soul and passion than anyone I've seen in the longest time!!

@frankratter The story I have heard many times is that Greg was not interested in the song so Warren gave it to Larry to record. After he (Greg) heard the McCray version he saw the potental and realized it could be a hit . A year later he relented and recorded it and as they say the rest is history.

Thanks for turning me onto this guy. Great set of pipes and great tone. Based on this song and his style, may seem to be the heir apparent to BB, from a vocal and economy of notes standpoint. To the people who prefer this version to the AB version, I can definitely see where you are coming from. Not sure I can make that jump yet, but very close. But to call the AB "arrogant" as a previous poster did, makes no sense. Pee on your '45's, did they?

Larry McCray was indeed the first person to record Soulshine. I consider it his original song, and not a cover. "While working on Delta Hurricane in the late '80s, McCray was offered the song by Warren Haynes, a member of the Allman Brothers Band. Although "Soul Shine" has been recorded by many artists, McCray was the first." )

So glad to see my favorite song sung by Larry. I have enjoyed seeing him play may times. I hope others will come across his U-Tube videos and enjoy his music as much as I do.

Nest to Warren Hayes this is my favorite version. Only Warren and Larry lend the emotion to the song that it truly deserves. It makes you search deep in your soul for answers. Life always seems so much better after hearing this song.

Awesome blues guitarist. Also a great guy. I saw him play in a bar in Colorado. There were only about 10 people there. Very underrated, or just unrecognized. He needs to get more exposure. After the show I talked to him and got my picture with him. One of the truly great blues players.

Great video. Great Song. Larry McCray is one of the most underrated blues men out there. I just discovered him about six months ago at a little bar in Fort Collins, CO. What an amazing guitarist and singer. I hope alot more people get to hear him. He is the Blues.
