  29. Ryan Pearson

I love Bey, but this song is terrible and perpetuates colorism. That’s why she tried to bury it and has rarely performed it. The constant need to declare herself a yellow bone and link her beauty to that is also feeding into colorist ideals. As much as I love “Formation”, “I stunt yellow-bone it” is a line we could’ve done without.

    971Cici

But if kelly releases a song declaring she's proud of being darkskin nobody will bat an eye, it will be praised so miss me with the double standard. She mentioned every hue of blacl in this song, dont try it

    Ryan Pearson

That’s the same argument people make for “All Lives Matter”. When there’s a history of colorism and prejudice that give women who are lighter in complexion privilege, it’s not the same as a darker woman declaring her pride for her dark skin. There was a time (and to be honest, we are still in it) where dark skin was automatically considered unattractive. Light skin has been coveted and praised since the advent of colonization and colonialism. You would be remiss to not contextualize the history of what “a bad bad yellowbone” infers And the weight it holds amongst people of the African Diaspora who have been MOST affected by colorism. Also she said yellow, red, brown. She didn’t mention chocolate or darker.

    971Cici

@Ryan Pearson well she said brown, do you know what brown is? Brown is the color of chocolate, all you said in that comment is right but you're clearly reaching. I understand the need to celebrate dark skin women , i am one btw, but i dont see the issue with that song in particular, she mentioned yellow, red and brown bones and even if she mentionned her being a yellow bone what is wrong with that as long as she doesnt tear dark women down. Im not offended by that and you shouldnt be either if you feel good about yourself, all that talk kinda looks like an inferiority complex..... although light skinned women get it better than us ,they're still stereotyped as well and live discrimination sometimes by other black people because of their light skin, sounds unusual but it does happen, we all have our struggle, im secured enough and love myself enough to feel unbothered and support a sister that has the right to celebrate what she looks like too

    Ryan Pearson

@971Cici Ma’am, me and Beyonce are in the same color range. I’ve been called a “redbone” my whole life, so I’m saying this as someone who “benefits” from light skinned privilege in this prejudiced and colorist society. And it’s problematic as fuck to me.

Its also a little of the blend of music amerie created which is where bey got it from its mixture of jazz go go and R&B it reminds of her music like this is one thing and Beyonce first sample of the sound on crazy in love amerie was pretty upset and Jlo tried to steal her songs which she does that to everyone and leave their vocals on the track and sing over because she can't sing that's why all her songs sound different its other people vocals smh

  37. Steven Vilmenay

Clueless Beyonce as usual. Her ass isn't creole, but her mother is.

Black and creole is the same thing...thats like saying im proud of being black and hatian. There a reason its called African American Creole

    Raymond Nolan Scott

@Niki Bronson No it's notDefinition of Creole1 : a person of European descent born especially in the West Indies or Spanish America2 : a white person descended from early French or Spanish settlers of the U.S. Gulf states and preserving their speech and culture3 : a person of mixed French or Spanish and black descent speaking a dialect of French or Spanish4a : a language evolved from pidginized French that is spoken by blacks in southern Louisianab : HAITIANc not capitalized : a language that has evolved from a pidgin but serves as the native language of a speech communityhttps://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/creoleblack and white races are social constructsAfrica doesn't mean black just like Europe doesn't mean whitethere is much diversity in Africa,Europe, and other continents

    Raymond Nolan Scott

I have also read about the language in Cape Verde referred to as Creole. The Creole languageThere is a saying that the language reveals much about a country. This also applies to Cape Verde, where Creole (Crioulo) – in addition to the official national language of Portuguese – reflects its citizen’s unbelievable diversity that has been produced by centuries of migration. So Portuguese is used for legal matters, in the media, at public offices, in churches and schools. On the other hand, Creole is the colloquial language spoken on the streets but also the language of music and poetry. The Creole of the Cape Verde Islands is considered to be one of the oldest African-European Creole languages. It can be compared with the Creole of Haiti, the Seychelles, Sierra Leone or Réunion. What all of these languages have in common is their historical background: People of very diverse origins had to communicate with each other somehow and therefore mixed their own language with words from the prevailing colonial language. Consequently, the Creole of Cape Verde consists of 90% from the “old“ Portuguese. The rest was borrowed from the African, French, English and other European languages; words from all of those languages whose people influenced the island’s history in the past. Above all, the intonation and the figurative images of the Creole form of expression come from Africa. In addition, each of the islands has its own dialect. Due to their history, many English words are heard in São Vicente and the language of Santo Antão sounds more like French. Whenever people work together across the regions, they speak a type of “official Creole“ that everyone understands. With ALUPEC (The Unified Alphabet for the Writing of Capeverdean Creole), it became possible to declare Creole, which had only existed as a spoken language up to that time, as the official second national language. When you are a visitor to the islands and greet the residents with “hello” in Creole, you are sure to be welcomed with a happy smile. You can find the most important Creole words and sentences in the Creole language guides that we recommend.http://www.capeverde.com/creole-language.htmlI am part Cape Verdean.

    Niki Bronson

@Raymond Nolan Scott notice how every single one of those definitions were different... the definition changes from place to place, from side to side and even different dictionaries have different definitions for it. Ever heard of African American Creole. Moreover if that's the case then this song wouldn't even make sense... You're not about to grab a couple definitions off of Merriam Webster and think you know more than me when I've literally dedicated my life to Black studies and genealogy. The word has had multiple iterations. The original meaning of the word describing anyone of any background born in the New World but then it is shifted and then became associated with several different things including the free people of color known as Louisiana Creole AKA African American Creole. Today's modern interation is not only languages but also representative of a mixture of cultures not necessarily ethnicities. The push for it to represent an ethnicity or a mixture of ethnic blood and not necessarily the culture came only with in the late 90s. And when the word is used in advertising it changes to whatever to however someone wants to benefit from advertising the word. That's why you have Haitian Creole, Louisiana Creole, Mississippi Creole, Carolina Creole, Bajan Creole, Cuban Creole Argentinian Creole and so on and so forth. Just because you're some guy that picked up a few definitions online doesn't mean you and all the sudden know the history of the entire word and its meaning or how its definition can vary from place to place or what your exposure is to it. Clearly you don't have that great of an exposure to the word because of your background and how it's used vastly different in the United States versus in the islands. Creole has multiple definitions including its association with being African American and being black. Louisiana Creole in particular is a culture not an ethnicity. It's a subculture of African-Americans hence why is called African American Creole and you can literally Google that. So when someone references the Creole culture they could be referencing any number of places. It's so ironic that you try to put forward this anti-racist idea there is no black and there is no white but trying to deny black people their own Heritage and white people at that too because there are white and black Creole people. It's a culture that applies to anyone of any skin tone. Brett Favre is of the Creole culture and so are black people and so are Asian people. It's all about where the French colonized.

  56. Rodney Whitney

Damn, Beyonce stole the *F**** out of Amerie's sound with Rich Harrison before her DIL album even came out. DAMMIT, Matthew! Listen to Amerie's "Touch" and "All I Have" and tell me Beyonce and Matthew weren't inspired in the 2000s.

    Nielsen Makaba

Amerie's debut album Didn't even have this sound lmao...also rich Harrison did not pioneer it...the NEPTUNES were already doing it years before him.... And Crazy in love is what really made Rich successful and introduced that sound to the mainstream....... and Amerie's none singing ass isn't remotely musically talented in any way

    Rodney Whitney

hobo 13 You’re just as pressed as every other imbecile that replied. 😂 Ask Matthew and Beyonce why *they* were pressed over Amerie’s sound, who sold millions less than her. 🤣

    Rodney Whitney

Nielsen Makaba You’re deaf. Ameriie brought the go-go sound to mainstream R&B. Talented or not, she and Rich were the blueprint for this sound, and clearly the more “t4l3nteD” artist was inspired.

    Nielsen Makaba

@Rodney Whitney she didn't.... because none of Amerie's music before ONE THING was truly mainstream "why don't we fall in love" wasn't even a billboard hot 100 top 20 song......mainstream=crossover rnb....CREOLE isn't even GO-GO....Wether Beyoncé was inspired or not Her sound was more funk/retro than whatever Amerie's flop ass was doing....

    Nielsen Makaba

@Rodney Whitney and why would Beyoncé and Mathew be pressed over an album that took a year to go GOLD 😂😂😂....?? PURE DELUSION

    Vallier *:・。

Most of us Creoles identify as black anyway. Creole isnt a race.

Pumpkin Lord of Ghosts and Ghouls

@Vallier *:・。 I don't. I identify as a Creole Woman, and that's how I will always Identify, and I don't give a shit about who is salty, pressed, envious, or mad about that. They can stay mad. I know plenty of other Creoles who 100% identify as Creole, as well. So don't say that most of us do. There are some who do, and some who do not.

    Vallier *:・。

@Pumpkin Lord of Ghosts and Ghouls Damn dont got to get in a hissy fit😂 Im just saying my Creole family doesnt really identity as Creole, they know by blood they are, but when someome asks they say their black, and Im pretty sure a few other Creoles do the same thing. If you do that fine, this is just what I say instead.

Creole actually means blending the African culture with some aspects of the European culture. Per se, it's not really a race or ethnic group but rather designates cultural practices or languages spoken in the Caribbeans or African countries.

violet divine spiritual readings Reiki practitioner

@Niki Bronson your ignorant nobody ever said Creole was separate from being black lmao only ignorant African Americans in other states that think because we identify as Creole we're saying we aren't black rotflmao you are making yourself look stupid there's no Creole people that don't have African heritage if they don't have it obviously they can't be Creole only white people try to claim themselves as French Creole its no such thing there are also quadroons in Louisiana which is basically 75% white and people that call themselves cajun when its just a culture that they created migrating from the French Canadian so have a seat

violet divine spiritual readings Reiki practitioner

@Niki Bronson your an idiot Creole culture is distinctly different from African cultures there plenty of African culture your dumbass mean African American culture Creole culture has more than just African influence it has Haitian French Spanish and native American culture also you ignoramus so that makes it completely different because of the diversity😂😂💆

violet divine spiritual readings Reiki practitioner

@Niki Bronson nothing wrong with a person accepting the other ethnicities they have that's what being Creole is and yeah their all different shades from light to dark skin some don't use the term Creole and just say black or African American because of ignorant idiots like you thinking the term means non black lol

Pumpkin Lord of Ghosts and Ghouls

@Niki Bronson There's a very good reason why college professors urge their students NOT to reference Wikipedia for their papers and thesis. Now I know where your nonsense "knowledge" comes from, you are dismissed! You get an F. Girl, bye.

    Niki Bronson

@Pumpkin Lord of Ghosts and Ghouls l o l you really thought you did something yet I'm sitting here working in genetic genealogy specializing in African American studies, African studies, African diasporic and anthropology... But of course you would know that so you would tempt your half-assed excuse for an insultOh yeah, and on top of that.*Me literally being Louisiana Creole and being tired of people not knowing what it actually means but just believing the Miss information for the misconception that are already out there* or not understanding that Wikipedia is only a landing page from there you can actually find the sources in the footnotes. And the average person doesn't want to delve into the scholarly articles I can provide but even if I did what's the point because I know no one would ever read them. *You really tried it*With that I'm blocking you and muting you and this conversation. That means even if you have something to say back, which people like you always do because you have to get the last word in to feel like you've won something that doesn't even matter, I will never read it. In fact I won't even get the notification that you responded. But watch well even though you know this, you're still going to respond. A testament to the level of intelligence. So have fun responding to yourself.

violet divine spiritual readings Reiki practitioner

@Niki Bronson Wikipedia has plenty of bs on there it can be edited by anyone lmao yet your referring people to Wikipedia if your Creole you shouldn't have to do that 😂😂😂💀

    Niki Bronson

@violet divine spiritual readings Reiki practitioner I literally point that out... did you even read. And I refer to myself because I am LA creole and other sources but like in typical fashion, people outside the culture do not know anything about it and when I try to tell him about it they think that they know more even though they're not a part of it as you're proving right now
