Quel son ! Dommage que la vidéo soit si courte : j'ai failli dire que ce kaval sonnait comme un shakuhachi (mettons un shakuhachi moldave...). En tout cas j'aime beaucoup.
@Guy Ferdinande Thank you, glad you like it. I will upload a new and longer kaval video as part of a project in the next weeks so stay tuned ;-)
nice...............
Hello, I'm happy to see that you make and play such beautiful instruments, but I have a question, why do you call this instrument a Moldavian caval ? Moldavians are romanians even those from Republic of Moldova :), the instrument you are playing has only 5 holes from what I see, this is the type of instrument played in Romania ( Muntenia,Moldova and many other historic regions of the country ), the caval from Republic of Moldova has 6 holes, 4 + 2. Anyway, keep up the beautiful work you do !
+Winne Clement He just means that this is not a Moldavian caval because they have 6 holes. This is a Wallachian caval because it is used in south Romania. But anyhow, wikipedia and disinformation are on top nowadays. We just wanted to point out that the name usage is wrong, even though you have known it to be right.
Hi, ok thanks for the info I appreciate it :-) well I am not really interested in who calles it what to be honest,I am in it for the great sound , but good that I know now.Do you know the intervals for the true 'Moldavian' kaval then? where is the 6th hole located? cheers!
+Winne Clement the modal scale of the Moldavian Kaval is: A, B, C, D, D#, E, F
hi, thanks but thats weird , isnt it A B C C# D#E F ? the scale you gave is almost impossible to hold with fingertip fingering used with fipple K(C)avals
@Winne Clement kavals used in Moldva (the region in Romania, not the country next to it) are a bit different than described above. They usually have 5 holes (3+2), you can play on it a scale like A B C D# E F# G, of course with the help of harmonics. To be precise, this instrument is quite specific for the "csángó" people in Moldva, I don't know if local romanians use the same kind of shape and tuning.
merci Curt!
Hello, embouchure on a Moldavian kaval is not that difficult as on a rim blown kaval, here I just cover part of the soundwindow with my lower lip to get the destorted sound.Key of the flute is G# , for info and contact please check my website it is at the end of the clip
What key tuning is this flute and how large is the inner bore?
How do I contact Winne Clement to get a flute like he is playing in this video?
Beautiful. I wish I could learn the embouchure technique to play a kavas flute like this. This is the largest inner diameter kavas flute I have ever seen. Totally intrigued by this form of playing.
Wonderful!!!!
nice !
