not sure on the neurology but speaking & singing are generally done in different "voices". this is more obvious when one hears someone sing different genres - many genres have a certain "accent" (due to their area of origin or their most famous artists) that singers will slip in to. very few singers talk the same way that they sing - it's actually A Thing in voice acting sometimes that an actor who IS a singer has a different person cast as their character's "singing" voice because the OTHER PERSON sings more like the actor than the actor themselves. e.g. Shang in Disney's Mulan.

@BattyButtercup I sing with much better diction than my daily speech. Our choir and chorus coach told us that was normal. Comes out very crisp, and most of the Twang and drawl is gone . My natural accent's kind of a mix between Jimmy Carter and Reese Witherspoon. Unless I'm doing something specific like old southern gospel, bluegrass, . etcetera
